Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., will run for president in 2016 — if he can convince his wife to sign off on the idea.

Paul joked that there are two votes in his household, both cast by his wife. "Both of them are no votes right now," he said during a speech at the Detroit Economic Club on Friday when asked if about his 2016 plans. "So, if I'm a very able politician, I'll tell you in a year if I'm able to persuade my wife."

He doesn't love being in the Senate, though. "It beats you down," Paul said. "I've been there three years and I get beaten down every day. It's how long can you maintain your enthusiasm to try to change something."

Paul made those comments while reiterating his call for term limits on members of Congress.

"Send the bums home, they need to get a job," he intoned.
