A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that Americans are split when asked to weigh in on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's assertions that he was telling the truth when he said he had nothing to do with the bridge scandal that led him to fire members of his staff.

Forty-four percent say that Christie is "mostly not telling the truth," while 42 percent say that he is "mostly telling the truth." That marks a fairly even split, considering the +/- 3.46 percent margin of error.

Fourteen percent said they were not sure.

Overall, 22 percent of respondents view Christie positively, and 29 percent view Christie negatively.

A significant percentage of people still haven't made up their minds about Christie. Twenty-eight percent of respondents were neutral on Christie and 21 percent were not sure.
