During his speech at the American Principles Project gala last night, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., argued that Republicans should continue to push for big cuts in government and taxes while offering a more merciful proposal to reform the criminal justice system.

“Everybody else told Reagan to shut up, too,” Paul said, according to Politico's Katie Glueck. “They said, ‘Shut up and wait your turn.' "

Paul called for a fight over the direction of the Republican Party, reminding them that fights did not have to be rude or impolite.

"We have to decide: Are we gonna go bold, are we gonna go big, or are we gonna go Democrat-lite?” he asked.
