Last month, when a poll showed Republican Scott Brown trailing Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen by 12 points in New Hampshire, some people jumped to write the obituary for his campaign.

But Brown isn't dead yet.

The latest results from the same survey, the WMUR Granite State Poll, show Brown has closed the gap to within the margin of error, with 44 percent to Shaheen's 46 percent.

Responding to the poll, Shaheen's campaign manager Mike Vlacich said the campaign has "been ready for a competitive race since day one."

"This race will come down to who makes a difference for people in New Hampshire, and Jeanne Shaheen's record is clear," Vlacich said.

Indeed, the race is expected to be among the most competitive this year — and could portend a strong showing for Republicans nationwide, should Brown successfully oust Shaheen.
