Mayor Vincent Gray will announce Tuesday that the District has purchased 10 alternative fuel vehicles for snow removal, trash collection and street sweeping.

The city bought the new vehicles using stimulus money from the federal government. The mayor’s office said the new vehicles are a part of Gray’s Sustainable D.C. initiative., which includes plans to reduce emissions by using alternative fuel vehicles.

Gray will formally announce the purchases at a morning news conference in Northeast.

Alternative fuel vehicles run on fuels that include ethanol, natural gas and hydrogen.
