
Lake, one of Washington’s most prominent Democratic pollsters, explains that women generally vote Democratic and men Republican, and that’s a trend she sees in married couples, typically assumed to vote as a tag-team.
“One of my favorite statistics,” says Lake, “is we ask married men and married women, ‘Do you usually vote the same way as your spouse.’” She said that 73 percent of men say they think they vote like their wife, but only but only 49 percent of their wives agree. “I call that the ‘Sure, honey,’ factor,” says Lake.
