The D.C. Auditor's Office on 14th Street Northwest was broken into this week, officials said.

Two laptops were among the items stolen, according to the office of D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown.

Brown is in contact with Police Chief Cathy Lanier about the incident, his office said, and the investigation is ongoing.

The auditor examines the accounts and operations of District government.
