A Prince George's County ambulance was involved in a three-vehicle crash while it was taking a patient to a hospital, officials said.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, the ambulance made a left turn from Branch Avenue onto Surrats Road. A tow truck broadsided the ambulance, then the ambulance struck a passenger vehicle, according to Prince George's County Fire/EMS.
The ambulance's driver was taken to a trauma center with injuries that weren't serious, authorities said. A volunteer firefighter/EMT in the ambulance was hospitalized with injuries that also weren't serious, officials said. A man in another vehicle involved in the crash was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The patient being transported was taken to the hospital in another ambulance. Authorities said they didn't know if the patient was injured in the crash.
Traffic citations are pending against the tow truck's driver, authorities said.The ambulance is estimated to have about $25,000 in damage and could possibly be considered a total loss, officials said.
