The Capitals will apparently reunite their top offensive players in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Rangers. Caveat: Things can always change before the team takes the ice this evening.
But star winger Alex Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom were on the top line with Marcus Johansson. Ovechkin and Backstrom have rarely played together since the Swede returned from a concussion. They have not started on a line together in the playoffs – though Backstrom has been out to win a late faceoff and assist on Ovechkin’s goals in Game 6 against Boston and Game 2 against the Rangers. The defensemen remained the same with Jeff Schultz paired with Dennis Wideman.
