Montgomery County police have released a composite sketch of a man suspected of impersonating a police officer in Silver Spring.

On May 2, a 39-year-old woman was driving on Avenel Road when the man driving a car behind her began blowing a horn and motioning for her to pull over. He then pulled next to her, yelled that he was an officer, showed her a badge and told her to pull over, police said.

The suspect demanded the woman's driver's license and registration, then ordered her to exit the car and sit on the curb, police said. He then went through the woman's car, took her purse and phone and drove away in his small, black compact car with blue Maryland license plates.

The man is described as black, about 26 years old, 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, with short curly hair and tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a black baseball hat with a police badge emblem, a black vest resembling a police vest with a silver badge attached, black cargo pants and black boots.

Anyone with information can call police at 301-565-5835.
