Mother's Day: Just another Obama fundraising idea

The Obama campaign has found another way to raise money, this time off Mother’s Day.

In an email to supporters, President Obama lovingly talks about his “best friend,” first lady Michelle Obama. “Michelle amazes me every day and in the years we’ve been together, nothing inspires me more than watching her be a mom to our two girls.”

Awe, right? Especially with Mother’s Day on Sunday. Then comes the spoiler: a link that lets supporters sign a Mother’s Day card to Michelle that links to a fundraising page after hitting the “sign the card” button.

Up pops a picture of a happy president under the headline, “thanks for signing Michelle’s card.” Underneath, it reads, “The next six months are going to be harder than any we've faced yet. Show that you've got Barack's back by taking the next step. Make a donation today and help grow this grassroots campaign.”

Below is the full email:

Friend --

If you're lucky enough to get to marry your best friend, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Michelle amazes me every day, and in the years we've been together, nothing inspires me more than watching her be a mom to our two girls.

Each of us has amazing women in our lives who give us strength and encouragement, and no matter what we do on Mother's Day, it never seems like enough.

This year, I wanted to try something a little different. I know Michelle treasures every single person who is part of this movement we've built, so I'm hoping each of you will sign my card to her today. It'll mean a lot to her.

Will you join me in wishing Michelle a happy Mother's Day?

Thanks, and happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

Barack
