In NHL, they're the Kings of the road

This is getting ridiculous. Everybody knows home-ice advantage has long been overrated in the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs. But the Los Angeles Kings are at a different level right now after winning their ninth road game this spring to take a 1-0 series lead over the New Jersey Devils in the finals Wednesday night in Newark.

The Kings are 9-0 away from Staples Center. They won three times in Vancouver, twice in St. Louis and three times in Phoenix. Those teams were the top three seeds in the Western Conference. Los Angeles entered as the No.?8 seed -- though it is 26-7-3, including the playoffs, since Feb. 25. But the Kings don't exactly want to explore their road success in any depth. They would rather just roll with it.

"We outwork teams," goalie Jonathan Quick told reporters at his press conference Thursday.

Coach Darryl Sutter didn't even bother to look for reasons behind the magic

"We [have] won one on the road now," he said. "Season started [Wednesday]."
