UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon have condemned "in the strongest terms" the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, three American diplomats and several Libyan security officers.

The council statement Wednesday said "diplomatic personnel and civilians" were injured but gave no numbers.

The U.N.'s most powerful body also condemned the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

Protesters angered at a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad attacked U.S. diplomatic offices in both countries.

The council urged Libyan and Egyptian authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that diplomatic premises and personnel are protected as required by the Vienna conventions.
