The TSA has responded to the “Wheelchair boy” video showing a TSA agent poking and prodding a 3-year-old boy in a wheelchair and swabbing him for explosives.
TSA spokesman Bob Burns noted that although the video went viral this week, it was an old video filmed 2010.

“The child had a cast and was in a wheelchair, and as a result, alternate procedures needed to be used,” he stated.
In 2011, Burns noted, the TSA changed their screening procedures for children.
“TSA has modified our screening to a risk-based approach, including modifying our screening for passengers 12 and under to reduce the amount of pat-downs that children receive, Burn wrote. “That said, certain medical conditions and other circumstances may require alternative measures to be implemented from time to time.”
