ATLANTA (AP) — Media pioneer Ted Turner took a chance by launching a cable network in 1992, airing around-the-clock cartoons during a time when ratings for animated shows were on the decline.

But over time, the Cartoon Network proved that a cartoon-only channel can work. Now, the network is looking back at past success, celebrating 20 years of existence.

Cartoon Network is commemorating its two-decade birthday with a month-long on-air tribute to its past and present shows. The network aired an originally animated music video Monday, featuring more than 100 cartoon characters that have ever appeared on the channel.

The network has come a long way from starting with just two million subscribers to now being shown in more than 175 countries and over 360 million households worldwide.
