TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A collection of paintings from French Impressionist Edouard Manet (man-AY') is making its only U.S. appearance this fall in Ohio.

The Toledo Museum of Art is hosting the show. It focuses on Manet's portraits of friends and celebrities of his era.

Show organizers say it's the first time a Manet exhibit has looked solely at his portraits. They also have chosen portraits that would open the discussion of what impact the emergence of photography had on Manet's paintings.

Manet lived during the mid-1800s when photography first became available to the public.

The exhibition features 40 paintings from public and private collections around the world. It runs through the end of the year before moving on to The Royal Academy of Arts in London next winter.
