A system failure that prevented Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle customers from renewing or applying for driver’s licenses and identification cards has been fixed.
The state’s 74 DMV locations resumed regular service Thursday morning, roughly a full week after a server failure crippled the agency’s computer systems.
State officials estimated roughly 45,000 people were inconvenienced during the service outage. The state’s DMV branches will stay open until 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday to accommodate more customers.
