“This week #potus45 @realdonaldtrump called both of our deputies to check on their spirits, wish them a speedy recovery and remind them that the #american people are behind them and that the coward that harmed them will be brought to #justice!!” the post added, accompanied by photos of Deputy Claudia Apolinar.
Apolinar was struck in the jaw by a bullet when an unidentified shooter opened fire on her and her partner earlier this month in Compton. She is in stable condition in the hospital.
“Here, you can see @lasdtransit Sergeant Frederickson with our #heroine and her husband when the President called her in the ICU. Due to her injuries, Sergeant Frederickson relayed her written responses to #presidenttrump,” the post continued.
Law enforcement officials are still looking for the shooter and have offered a reward to anyone with information that leads to the individual’s arrest and conviction.
“That was a cowardly act,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said after the attack. “The two deputies were doing their job, minding their own business, watching out for the safety of the people on the train. To see somebody just walk up and start shooting on them, it pisses me off. It dismays me at the same time. There’s no pretty way to say it.”
Trump has condemned the shooting and called the suspect an “animal.”
“This animal goes up to the car — two unsuspecting, fine people. They are fine people. They are in very grave condition, as you know. He’s an animal. And I called him an animal, as you know, and I was criticized by people for calling him an animal. They said he’s a human being. He’s not a human being. He’s an animal,” Trump said last weekend during a rally.
