CLEVELAND (AP) — Officials say the first of several large natural gas processing plants in eastern Ohio is scheduled to open in May.

The plant and others like it are crucial to getting the gas cleaned up and moved into commercial pipelines. The industry estimates 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 5.5 billion barrels of oil are in eastern Ohio shale, ready to be extracted by injection wells.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer (http://bit.ly/VNOzIg ) reports that construction details of the new plant in Kensington, in eastern Columbiana County, were announced last week during the Ohio Oil & Gas Association's expo. The event in Cleveland drew more than 3,000 people.

Houston-based M3 Midstream is building the plant under a partnership with Chesapeake Energy Corp. of Oklahoma and EV Energy Partners, another Texas company.
