Hopkins suffers rare, shocking loss to Albany

Albany upset the top-ranked Johns Hopkins men?s lacrosse team, 8-7, Saturday.

Albany showed their underestimated striking power with a 5-0 lead in first 22 minutes of the game.

Hopkins, however, answered with seven unanswered points of its own, notching a 7-5 lead by halftime.

The scoring battle slowed until the fourth quarter when Albany tied the scored 7-7. Then, in the waning seconds of the game, Albany?s Frank Resetarits let loose a low tight shot that sped past Hopkins goalie Jesse Schwartzman to make the score 8-7.

In the remaining 10 seconds, Hopkins players Kevin Huntley and Steven Boyle unloaded two shots that didn?t make their mark.

Hopkins faces Princeton Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.

» MARYLAND FALLS TO GEORGETOWN: The fifth-ranked Maryland Terps fell to No. 4 Georgetown, 8-6,on Friday.

The Hoyas secured an early 6-1 lead in the first half. Terp Max Ritz scored his third career hat trick and narrowed the Hoyas lead to 6-4 in the second half. Ritz?s teammate, Chris Feifs, scored the game-tying goal with only 13 minutes left in the game.

Ultimately, the Terps? comeback efforts were thwarted by the Hoyas who scored two goals in the last minutes of game.

Maryland faces off against a rebuilt Duke Friday at Maryland.

» NAVY KEEPS ON ROLLING: The Midshipmen improved to 3-1 on the season with a 9-4 win Saturday over Lafayette.

Midshipmen senior Billy Looney scored twice just the 2:12 into the contest.

At the end of the first half Navy held a 4-2 lead.

Navy?s Ian Dingman opened the third quarter scoring on back-to-back shots. Dingman also has a record 17 career hat tricks and is one of just eight Navy lacrosse players ever to score 150-career points.

The Mids shot 34 on goal compared to Lafayette?s 19.
