JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — The former head of a western Pennsylvania city's redevelopment authority has pleaded not guilty to federal extortion and bribery charges.

Sixty-two-year-old Ronald Repak of Johnstown was arraigned Wednesday and released on $10,000 unsecured bond by a federal magistrate who ordered him to surrender his passport and get permission before traveling outside of western Pennsylvania.

Prosecutors allege that Repak, who was executive director at the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority for three decades, used his influence to obtain a new roof for his home as well as work that benefited his son's business and Pittsburgh Steelers tickets.

Defense attorney Alexander Lindsay told reporters that Repak expects to have his case heard by a jury and "is anxious to defend himself on these charges."
