Va. Guard members return from Afghanistan

SANDSTON, Va. (AP) — About 150 Virginia National Guard members have returned to the U.S. from Afghanistan.

The members of the Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group were activated to federal duty on April 1, 2013. They were deployed to Afghanistan in June 2013 and returned to the U.S. on Saturday.

The Guard says the soldiers will spend a week to 10 days at Fort Hood in Texas for reintegration training, medical evaluation and administrative tasks to transition from federal active duty to traditional National Guard status.

While in Afghanistan, the soldiers conducted transportation support operations at Kandahar Airfield.
