SCHUYLER LAKE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say they've charged the wife of the chief of an upstate New York volunteer fire department with stealing nearly $30,000 from the organization.

Troopers say 42-year-old Lori Lamb of Hartwick was charged earlier this month with grand larceny, forgery and falsifying business records.

Police say she stole more than $29,400 while serving as treasurer for the Schuyler Lake Fire Department in rural Otsego County. Local media report that her husband is the fire chief.

Lamb was released without having to post bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if she has a lawyer.

The previous treasurer, Gale Kimsey, says he contacted state police after returning in April from a medical leave and discovering funds were missing from the fire department's accounts. Kimsey says Fire Chief John Lamb didn't know about the missing funds.
