WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Hungry snow plow drivers who'd been working all night are about the only customers at a diner in downtown Waterloo.

Newton's Paradise Cafe cook Blake Landau says the drivers are feasting on breakfasts, roast beef sandwiches and chili that he made for them.

He says it's a good thing business is slow because the server could not get out of his driveway because of the storm, and so Landau is cooking and waiting tables.

Landau says he's also happy about the snow that is already up to his knees because it is his 27th birthday. He says he's always liked it to snow on his birthday because that typically means Christmas will be a white one.

In fact, he plans to celebrate later Thursday by going sledding with friends.
