  • After first round, intriguing DB options remain for Redskins

    Updated: Fri, Apr 26, 2013

The first round worked out well for the Redskins, even if they didn’t have a draft pick. That is, if they want to find another defensive back. Four cornerbacks and three safeties were selected in the first round, though some experts and analysts felt there was a chance a couple others could...

  • Redskins have draft decisions to make at key positions

    John Keim

    Updated: Thu, Apr 25, 2013

The Redskins made their philosophy clear last season in the fourth round. They already had a quarterback in first-round pick Robert Griffin III, but when Kirk Cousins, a guy they rated as a first-round pick, fell to them, they couldn't resist. They wanted the best player. It's a philosophy...

  • 'Honey Badger' Tyrann Mathieu leaving a sour taste to some

    John Keim

    Updated: Thu, Apr 25, 2013

The Redskins will have a chance to draft LSU corner Tyrann Mathieu. Two years ago, that would have been an exciting possibility. Now? After missing last season because he was kicked off the team, reportedly for multiple positive drug tests? It's far from a no-brainer and, really, it depends on...

  • Redskins playing waiting game in NFL Draft

    John Keim

    Updated: Wed, Apr 24, 2013

With no first-rounder, Washington has lots of uncertainty They knew what they would do last year. Everyone else did, too. The Redskins had traded up for the second pick in the draft; Robert Griffin III would be available. There was no drama, just jubilation for the Redskins. When the NFL...

  • Players to watch for Redskins in NFL Draft

Offense RT Terron Armstead The Redskins like Tom Compton for the future, but Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Armstead might be too talented to pass on and would be a perfect fit in a stretch zone. They would have athletic bookends, which would help the cutback game immensely. WR Quinton Patton The...

…Running back Roy Helu suffered a setback in his recovery from turf toe, but coach Mike Shanahan said he’s nearly 100 percent. Helu played in only three games last season because of the injury on his left foot. Safety Reed Doughty also is dealing with the same issue, though Shanahan said...

  • Redskins want RG3 to take it slow

    John Keim

    Updated: Wed, Apr 24, 2013

The Redskins like that Robert Griffin III remains ahead of schedule. They just want to make sure he stays that way — and they’ll do so by making sure he’s not going too fast. In January, Griffin underwent ACL reconstructive surgery and also had his LCL and MCL repaired in his...

  • To Five: Second-round draft picks by Mike Shanahan

    John Keim

    Updated: Tue, Apr 23, 2013

It's not relevant what the Redskins have done with recent second-round picks; it is relevant what Mike Shanahan has done, considering he's the one in charge. Only two of his 14 second-round picks in Denver and Washington has made the Pro Bowl while playing for him. Shanahan has selected just one...

  • Donovan McNabb is no fan of Redskins' zone read option offense

    John Keim

    Updated: Tue, Apr 23, 2013

Maybe it's a genuine sentiment. Maybe it's clouded by bitterness stemming from his one (failed) season in Washington. Regardless, former Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb is not a fan of the zone read option. In fact, he makes it seem as if the Redskins run it because coaches want to enhance...

  • In Tampa Bay, not even Darrelle Revis is an island

    John Keim

    Updated: Mon, Apr 22, 2013

The benefits will be obvious. Darrelle Revis instantly will improve Tampa Bay's pass defense, perhaps elevating the Buccaneers into one of the better units in the game. Revis, along with fellow newcomer safety Dashon Goldson, will make a difference. That is, if Revis is healthy and returns to...
