RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Five people have been arrested as a result of three separate investigations into moonshine and drug operations in Franklin County.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control made the announcement Tuesday. The agency says investigators received leads on more illegal activity, prompting a new investigation.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigations. More than 20 gallons of untaxed liquor and small amounts of marijuana were seized.
During last week's operations, ABC agents received a tip that led them to another location where they seized about 150 gallons of untaxed liquor and a small amount of narcotics. The alcohol was discovered behind a false wall in an outbuilding in the Wirtz area of Franklin County. Criminal charges are expected.
