David Axelrod didn’t have much to say when he was asked why polls how Mitt Romney leading President Obama among independent voters.

“I can’t speak to that,” Axelrod told Mark Halperin on MSNBC, moments after saying that the winner among independents would win Ohio. “Part of it, Mark, is how polls are conducted and how people identify themselves in the poll,” he speculated.

Axelrod also said that his data indicates that “we’re doing well with independents.”
