The Examiner’s own Paul Bedard kicked up a bit of a fuss Monday with a item on the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises and how the political world is buzzing with people trying to draw connections between the film’s villain Bane and Mitt Romney’s former company Bain Capital and whether this was intentional on the part of the Hollywood filmmakers.
Yesterday, comic book writer Chuck Dixon, who wrote the original stories in 1993 that introduced the villain, gave a radio interview to try to clear up the situation. He explained that not only is he and Bane’s co-creator both staunch conservatives but that Bane is actually a left-wing anarchist.
He’s far more akin to an Occupy Wall Street type if you’re looking to cast him politically. And if there ever was a Bruce Wayne running for the White House it would have to be Romney.
Of course, beyond creating the character Dixon has apparently had little to do with the film, so it is not clear yet how exactly Bane is portrayed in it. It would hardly be the first time that a fictional character was cast in a different light from the one of the person who created him.
