MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Kevin Garnett and Courtney Lee missed the Celtics' game Saturday night against Memphis with left ankle injuries, while Grizzlies center Marc Gasol sat out with an abdominal tear.
Memphis forward Zach Randolph didn't start because of what coach Lionel Hollins called an internal matter.
Gasol was listed as "out indefinitely," on a team report.
Randolph leads the team with 11.6 rebounds per game. In the past, he has sat out the start of games for being late to practice or a shootaround. He entered the game near the midway point of the first quarter.
Jeff Green started in Garnett's place, while Jason Terry replaced Lee in Boston's starting lineup.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers didn't know when Garnett hurt his ankle. The Celtics' second-leading scorer at 14.9 points, he had 16 points and 12 rebounds in Boston's 104-94 loss at Dallas on Friday night.
"I don't know if (Garnett) hurt it in the game (Friday) night, or if it has been a couple of games. I have no idea," Rivers said before the game. "Whenever somebody does anything with an ankle, they do an MRI because that's what they do.
"So, him and Courtney, if Courtney hasn't had one, he'll have one too."
Lee, a 6-foot-5 guard, crumpled to the court with 1:21 left in the Dallas game after spraining his ankle.
Gasol had favored the abdominal injury for several games, including not jumping center to start recent games in order to avoid straining the injury. He is averaging 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Ed Davis Gasol and Darrell Arthur started for Randolph to open the game.
