Two Silver Spring residents were killed and six other people were injured in a Christmas Eve crash on the Capital Beltway, police said.

The incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. Monday on the Outer Loop of the Beltway near Connecticut Avenue.

A 2008 Chevrolet Malibu lost control going into a turn and spun out, striking a 1994 Toyota truck. A 2010 Chevrolet Silverado truck then struck the Malibu, Maryland State police said.

Two passengers in the Malibu -- a 30-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy -- were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The car's driver, a 36-year-old Silver Spring woman, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The two truck drivers and four other passengers in the vehicles suffered minor injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
