Berkadia buys Hendricks apartment broker

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Berkadia Commercial Mortgage, which is partly owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, is acquiring a company that helps investors buy apartment buildings.

Berkadia said Wednesday that it acquired Phoenix-based Hendricks & Partners, which will become Hendricks-Berkadia.

Berkadia is a joint venture owned by Buffett's company and Leucadia National Corp. Berkadia is a major commercial real estate lender and loan servicer based in Horsham, Pa.

Buffett says Berkadia's acquisition of Hendricks should help the company expand with services for people interested in multifamily real estate.

Hendricks has 37 offices nationwide. CEO Don Hendricks says his company has grown into one of the nation's largest sales platforms for apartments.
