A bicyclist was critically injured in a collision with a school bus in Montgomery County, police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The bicyclist was heading north on Berryville Road and the bus was traveling eastbound on Darnestown Road when the two collided in the intersection, Montgomery County police said.

The bicyclist, a man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police have not yet released his name. A police spokeswoman did not know if he was wearing a helmet.

The school bus driver, 53-year-old Michael Rinaldo, was taken to a hospital for a check-up, police said. The bus was carrying 29 students from Poolesville High School, none of whom were injured.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still being investigated.
