NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) — The cold, rainy start to the official start of summer isn't dampening the spirits of Block Island business owners who expect tourism will be stronger this year than last.
Danielle Dziok, desk manager of the Spring House Hotel, told the Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/yXauJR ) that the season already is shaping up to be better than last year. She believes visitors are traveling north to avoid beaches damaged by Superstorm Sandy last October.
She also says Block Island is more affordable that Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
The National Hotel also says bookings are up over last year and the hotel is full on Memorial Day weekend.
