Chelsea’s short TV gig?

The news media were getting pretty hyped to see Chelsea Clinton joining NBC News as a correspondent, but her new contract with the network is only 90 days — which may be just as well. Considering the network’s announcement in November that they’d bring Clinton on as a full-time special correspondent on the network’s “Making a Difference” series, contributing human interest stories for “Nightly News” and “Rock Center,” her lackluster debut in December left a lot of people wondering if she had enough charisma for her new role. And with NBC News president Steve Capus saying at the time, “I hope it’s the beginning of a nice, long-term relationship,” Clinton may have wanted more of a commitment from the network. But sources are saying the network “created unrealistic expectations. Chelsea wanted a 90-day contract to see if she liked it,” but she might not love this new relationship enough to sign on again.” One Clinton rep said she’d decide closer to the end of her 90-days whether or not to renew her contract, and “In the meantime she is very much enjoying her time there and looking forward to her next piece airing.”
