Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., son of the civil rights activist, has been hospitalized since last month. His office initially termed it “exhaustion” last week but his ailment is apparently more severe than that.

His office recently sent out a cryptic press release stating that Jackson “has grappled with certain physical and emotional ailments privately for a long period of times.” It asked that “you keep Congressman Jackson and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.”

It did not specify what is ailing him though. That has lead to a fair amount of speculation as to what is wrong with Jackson.

Well, Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., is having none of it. He told the Washington Post: “The man said that he is exhausted; even Christ has to step away from the multitudes in order to refresh. He is very wise to do that.”

What could be exhausting Jackson? Well, he is under a House Ethics Committee investigation for allegedly trying to strike a backdoor deal with disgraced former Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich to get appointed to President Obama’s vacant Senate seat. Then there are the revelations the married Jackson has kept a mistress.

That would stress anybody out.
