Police have recovered the body of a local Muslim leader from a river in Prince William County after a daylong search.

Mohammad Mehboob, president of the Muslim Association of Virginia, was found dead in the Occoquan River at about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Mehboob, 58, had gone missing Thursday, and Prince William County police located his car near the Route 123 bridge that crosses the river.

Media outlets had reported that police feared Mehboob may have been suicidal, although his family told media outlets that he showed "no evidence of depression-like or suicidal behavior."

Fairfax County police joined the search, and the department's Marine Patrol Unit eventually located Mehboob's body with a sonar. The department's dive team recovered the body with assistance from Prince William police.

No cause of death has been determined, police said.
