Prince George's County police have charged a 12-year-old boy with second degree murder in the beating death of a 2-year-old girl.

Both children lived together in the 1800 block of Taylor Avenue in Fort Washington; police indicated that the 2-year-old was a foster child. On Tuesday, the girl's father called police and reported the child was unresponsive. The father gave the girl CPR but she was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

An autopsy determined the girl died of blunt force trauma, police said.

Police said a 12-year-old boy also living in the house had beaten the girl "repeatedly." He has been charged with second-degree murder and remanded to the Cheltenham Youth Facility, but is not being charged as an adult.
