BALTIMORE (AP) — Fire officials say an 8-year-old likely walking home from school was killed by debris from an east Baltimore rowhouse fire and collapse.
Fire Department spokesman Ian Brennan says a second child walking by was struck by debris and two people inside were also hurt Wednesday, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Brennan says school had just let out at William Paca Elementary School about two blocks away.
Firefighters arriving on the scene found people trying to clear some of the debris, but Brennan says the fire was too hot. He says Troy Douglas' body was found in the rubble.
The fire's cause is under investigation. Witnesses told local media that they heard a boom, but Brennan says it's not yet clear if there was an explosion.
