SAO PAULO (AP) — Police in the Brazilian World Cup host city of Belo Horizonte say gunmen opened fire on a group of men in a bar watching Monday's match between Brazil and Cameroon.
Sgt. Jonathas Rocha is a press officer of the Belo Horizonte police department. He says nine men were wounded and four of them are in critical condition.
He said that the gunmen belonged to a drug trafficking gang settling accounts with a rival group and that "the shooting had nothing do with the World Cup."
He said the shooting occurred in a slum "far away" from the Mineirao Stadium that will host Tuesday's match between England and Costa Rica, as well as from areas visited by tourists in town for the tournament.
