NEW YORK (AP) — Broadway is apparently sticking with its love affair with religion — this spring will welcome the "The Testament of Mary," a play by Colm Toibin based on his 2011 novella about Jesus' mother after the crucifixion.

Producers on Tuesday said Fiona Shaw will star in the adaptation, which has previews beginning March 26 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. It opens on April 22.

Scott Rudin will produce. Shaw was last on Broadway in "Medea" in 2002. Toibin is best known for "A Long Winter" and his short story collection "Mothers and Sons."

His play joins a long list of religious-themed works on Broadway, including "The Book of Mormon," ''Sister Act," ''Grace," ''Scandalous," ''Leap of Faith," ''Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."
