A career burglar who targeted vehicles and homes near Potomac and Bethesda country clubs has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Michael B. Dorsey, 47, who had addresses in Silver Spring and Potomac, was found guilty last month in four separate trials in Montgomery County. He represented himself.

Authorities said Dorsey sometimes hid inside his Cadillac Escalade SUV to seek out victims and then steal purses, laptops and other valuables from their vehicles. He was caught on camera using stolen credit cards, prosecutors said.

Investigators searching his vehicles found a replica Smith and Wesson handgun, a spring-loaded window punch and bags containing stolen goods worth hundreds of dollars.
