A cab driver was killed and two men were captured after a shooting and police chase in Adams Morgan.

At about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to D.C. police, officers on patrol heard a gunshot, and saw a taxicab crash around Kalorama and Ontario NW. Two men jumped out of the taxi and fled on foot.

As the officers pursued the men, one of the men fired at the officers who returned fire.

The man broke into a home, and both men were captured by police. Police also recovered a weapon.

The cab driver was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. He has been identified as 57-year-old Solomon James Okoroh, of Lanham.

Police have charged 32-year-old Ercell Overton, of Northwest D.C., with first-degree murder, felony assault on a police officer and burglary.

The second man, Joshua King, of Hyattsville, was charged with an unrelated probation violation.

According to D.C. Councilman Jim Graham, the area had been dark because of power outages when the shooting occurred.
