JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Those egg cartons are adding up for Mississippi's Cal-Maine Foods Inc.
The Jackson-based company said Wednesday that it sold more than 12 billion eggs in the year ended May 31, more than 1 billion dozen.
Cal-Maine says it sold 1.014 billion dozen fresh eggs, which the company says is the first time any egg supplier has passed yearly sales of more than 1 billion dozen.
Chairman and CEO Dolph Baker says internal expansions and acquisitions are driving growth. He says consumer demand for eggs is "favorable."
Cal-Maine is the largest producer of fresh shell eggs in the United States, selling its eggs in 29 states. The company will report its financial results for the year on July 28.
