CHINO HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Dozens of residents of a Southern California suburb protested Saturday against a hilltop home that they say serves as a maternity center for Chinese mothers paying thousands of dollars to give birth to so-called "anchor babies."

The mayor of Chino Hills tells the San Bernardino Sun (http://bit.ly/TAKWGd) that code enforcement investigators found out that rooms in the house have been rented out to pregnant Chinese women until they give birth.

Protesters said they don't want to see a business operating in a residential area. They held signs at a busy intersection that read "No Birth Tourism" and "Not Here! Not in USA!"

"Chino Hills is a nice family oriented town. We don't want a maternal hotel that is a business in a residential area," said Rossana Mitchell.

Kelly Good said the women came to the United States under "false pretenses." That is, they come legally on tourist visas, but their intention is to give birth in the United States so their children would automatically gain citizenship.

The Sun said it called the three numbers posted on a fence leading up to the house, but got hung up each time.
