NBC host David Gregory revealed a bias for tradition Tuesday night, admitting he has agreements with at least one friend that each other's children call them by their last names, as in "Mr. Gregory."

"Community standards have sort of melted away," Gregory said, leaving "a mess" when it comes to drawing boundaries and showing respect.

The "father of twins," as he was billed in event material, discussed "The Secrets of Happy Families" with author Bruce Feiler at an event sponsored by Politics and Prose Bookstore.

Gregory said the event "re-energized" him to implement family improvement tips from the book. Although he and the author are friends, his cross-examination prompted Feiler to joke he might have made a mistake inviting the "Meet the Press" host: "Aren't you leaving now? Go cover the news."
