A 35-year-old man was killed in Capitol Heights on Tuesday morning when he was crushed by a vehicle, police said.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. in the area of Nova Avenue and Rail Street. Aaron Jerome Smith, of Capitol Heights, was changing a flat tire underneath a vehicle when the jack slipped and the vehicle fell on him, Prince George's County police spokesman Officer Edward Martin said. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that they do not believe the death is related to Hurricane Sandy. However, a spokesman with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency said that Smith's death and two others in the state are under investigation by the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as possibly being storm-related.

The other two deaths were a woman killed in a two-vehicle collision in Germantown and a man killed when a tree fell on his Pasadena home. Officials said there have been no definitive rulings on whether any of the deaths were connected to the storm.
