Think goalie Braden Holtby has looked cool under pressure as a 22-year-old rookie in the Stanley Cup playoffs? Well, he had an added degree-of-difficulty you might not have known about – his fiancée was pregnant with their first child. On Thursday, Holtby became a father for the first time when Benjamin Hunter Holtby was born at a local hospital. Mother and son are doing well, according to the Capitals.
Kind of makes his postseason stats – 335 saves on 359 shots for a .933 save percentage – all the more remarkable. Holtby is expected to start his 14th career playoff game on Saturday when Washington plays the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Hope the new dad can get some rest between now and then. Doesn't hurt that Holtby's parents, Greg and Tami, are both in town and have been at all of his recent playoff games.
