PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee has named a new board chairman at Rhode Island Housing and nominated a new member to provide what he calls fresh leadership.
The governor said Monday that Andrew Cortes, director of the Building Futures training program, will serve as chairman. He already has a seat on the board. Chafee says the quasi-public agency has some upcoming challenges and will benefit from Cortes's experience.
The board was chaired by Jim DeRentis, who also is chair of the Providence Redevelopment Agency. Chafee says the move will "further assure Rhode Islanders that these two groups are acting independently."
Chafee also nominated Stephen McAllister, manager of the eastern region of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. If confirmed, he will take over the position of outgoing Vice Chairman T. Paul Dimeo.
