CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Center for Green Technology has received a green building award.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the honor Wednesday. The U.S. Green Building Council gave the center platinum certification based on its rating system. That means the building gets top marks for energy efficiency. The mayor says it is the first city building to achieve the status. He says it demonstrates the city is committed to being environmentally friendly in building and operations.

The facility is a green design resource center, offering seminars and tours.
