BALTIMORE (AP) — A 7-year-old boy is dead and an 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after a row house fire in Baltimore on Monday morning, according to fire officials.
The Baltimore City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the 300 block of North Bruce Street around 1:39 a.m. on Monday. The fire was under control by around 2:13 a.m.
Fire fighters were informed that there were individuals trapped inside the row home, and once inside discovered two children. The 7-year-old, identified as Sean McCullough, was transported to Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead. The other child was transported to the Johns Hopkins pediatric unit.
Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Ian Brennan said witnesses said a third child was dropped out of a window into the arms of a friend or neighbor on the street below. That child was taken to the hospital and released. Brennan said a fire fighter was also taken to the hospital and treated for burns before being released early Monday.
Brennan said three adults who were in the home escaped unharmed.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of McCullough's death.
